The purpose of this article is to clarify the different Weight data elements that UPS reports. This article will specifically explain the difference between Billed Weight and Carrier Corrected weight. We will also provide links directly to the UPS website that provides explanations of each.
Billed Weight takes into consideration the dimensions of the package. If the Shipper Reported Weight is 10 LB, due to dimensions it could be rated at 15 LB (that 15 LB is the Billed Weight). Somewhat complicating matters is UPS generally (not sure if this is true in all countries) rounds up to the nearest pound. So a package that has a Shipped Weight of 10.2 LB and a Billed Weight of 11 LB wasn’t “Dim Weight Rated”.
Carrier Corrected Weight will be populated when the shipper reported inaccurate weight or dimensions. In that case, we would see a “Carrier Corrected” weight. In all cases the “Carrier Corrected” weight is a correction to the Billed Weight.
In the screenshot below, #1 that is a normal scenario. UPS automatically rounds up from 10.2 lb to 11 lb. This package wasn’t “Dim Weight Rated”.
#2 was an instance where the shipper’s weight or dimensions were wrong, and UPS corrected them.
