Summary
Elapsed Time In Transit is also known as the time between label creation and parcel delivery. Elapsed Time is often used to evaluate service metrics and can be vital in determining which lanes/regions are having the greatest impact on performance. In this case, it will be demonstrated how you can group tracking units by their Ship-To State and then monitor each unit's Elapsed Time in Transit.
This article will demonstrate multiple ways to find this data, using the Tracking Summary application and the Transit Time Period Analysis application. The first application, Tracking Summary, has the capability to provide detailed information on elapsed days in transit for each package shipped. The second application, Transit Time Period Analysis, will provide a high-level overview of the average days in transit by carrier service.
Solution - Tracking Summary (Detailed)
In this example we will demonstrate how you can find this information in the Tracking Summary application.
First, open the Intelligent Logistics Homepage and click on the Tracking Summary tile
Elapsed Days in Transit is calculated when a shipment is delivered, so first we will need to filter by packages that have a transit status of delivered.
From the Transit Status filter, select Delivered. Then click Go to run the initial data.
Next, we will customize the report by adding the necessary data points. Click on the Settings button on the right side of the page.
The settings page will open up and you will now be looking at a list of columns, which represent the data fields available to populate in the table. If a box is checked to the left of a data point, that means that the corresponding field will populate as a column in your final data.
Click the box next to the following data points:
- Manifest Scan Date - the time/date of the shipping label creation.
- Origin Scan Date - the time/date of when the package was picked up by the carrier.
- Delivery Date
- Elapsed Days in Transit - you can also elect to view elapsed weekdays in transit.
- Ship-to State
Please note: Elapsed Days in Transit is calculated using the In Carrier Possession Date/Time, so it NOT will include the time in which the label has been created but has not been picked up by the carrier.
Once selected, these data fields will now populate as columns in your table data:
Click on the column heading for Ship-to State to sort your data by state:
Do you see blanks for some packages? It's likely that these are international shipments. Try adding Ship-to Country or Business Sub-Region to view that data.
If you're still seeing blanks, click on the tracking number - if the Ship-to information was not entered at the time of label creation, these fields will be blank.
From the Pivot Dimensions (drop-downs), select Ship-to State and Elapsed Days in Transit. Then click on the Pivot Settings button to select your desired columns.
Solution - Transit Time Period Analysis (Overview)
